Why choose the Culture and Inter-Cultural Communication Edubook?

MODEL

The starting point for the Edubook is the 4R model, developed by the authors Fons Trompenaars and Riana Schreuders. Here the focus is on the relationship between different cultural models.

PRACTICAL

A key focus of this publication is on teaching practical solutions to inter-cultural dilemmas within practical situations. In addition to recognising and respecting cultural differences, attention is paid to teaching thought-processes to connect complex and conflicting cultural values.

MODERN DIDACTICS

This Edubook makes optimal use of digital didactics. It contains many interactions and a reflective portfolio focused on accumulating experiences regarding inter-cultural competence development. The learning resource provides access to a number of assessments to create deeper awareness about students' own cultural orientations.

The Culture & Inter-cultural Communication Edubook focuses on teaching and applying inter-cultural skills and competences. Students develop a way of thinking that can be applied in any inter-cultural situation.

The learning resource is relevant for any student or professional who deals with cultural differences and people from other cultural groups, either during their studies or in the workplace. The publication can be used from the first year of study and by professionals who work in multi-national organisations or organisations dealing with local diversity.

The Culture and Inter-cultural Communication Edubook is aimed at teaching different approaches that can be used in any situation. These are presented in a variety of interactive ways.

The publication is visually appealing and includes interactive activities which both incentivise students to study and learn the content. The Edubook also makes use of digital didactics, such as interactive exercises and a reflective portfolio focused on accumulating experiences regarding inter-cultural communication.

THE 4R MODEL

The Edubook is built around the 4R model (Recognition, Respect, Reconciliation, Realization). With the 4R model as a central point, students learn to master inter-cultural competences. It's not just about respecting and recognising cultural differences. Reconciliation and Realisation, or finding creative, values-transcending solutions make this Edubook stand out. The Edubook stimulates a way of thinking that can be applied in any inter-cultural situation.

PRACTICAL-ORIENTED

The focus of the publication is mainly on the application of inter-cultural skills in professional settings. The theory and various models support solving inter-cultural dilemmas, learning new skills and approaches to cultural differences.

COHERENCE OF VARIOUS MODELS

The Edubook is based on the 7-Dimensions of Trompenaars and Dilemma Reconciliation of Hampden-Turner, whereby a link is made to other models such as those of Hall, Schein, Hofstede and Meyer, amongst others. Instead of focusing on each model separately, this publication is about the coherence of the models when applied in practice. This meets the needs of students who often are required to learn a lot of different models but have a little insight into the coherence and differences between them.

DEVELOPMENTS IN THE FIELD

More and more companies operate internationally. Where multi-nationals used to be mainly large-scale industrial companies, this is now increasingly also the case for smaller companies. This means that gauging customer preferences is increasingly becoming an international affair and cultural differences play an important role in business. In the workplace, too, there is more co-operation between different cultures.

Students and graduates are therefore expected to have a broad, outward-looking view that is open to the input of other cultures. In doing so, they must be aware of developments that may be relevant to professional practice and they must not only be able to adapt to this international environment, but must also conduct themselves accordingly. This involves recognising and respecting cultural differences (inter-cultural awareness) and translating global developments to their own contexts.

Why choose an Edubook?

An Edubook is a total solution that unites all learning materials associated with a subject. It replaces the theory book, the reference work, the workbook, the elaboration book, your syllabus with articles and possibly even the exam. In principle, the Edubook is an online application and offers all the functionalities required to communicate a course to students in a modern way, with new working methods. The Edubook also has a print functionality for people who do not want to work 100% digitally yet.
